Training your Dog for Obedience
Teaching your dog obedience training is not easy, many people will advise you differently to what works best. Getting to know your dog and spending time practising will bring you closer and you will soon understand each other.
There are certain things that one should be doing which will help you to achieve your goals when training your dog to be obedient. So what should you do that will ensure that your dogs obedience training goes well?
1. Respect and loyalty is import between you and your dog, the relationship has to be built up around mutual respect. However do not let your dog take control, remember you are in charge!
2.When training your dog to be obedient make sure that you stay confident and in control.
3. When it comes to obedience training for dogs it is important that not only they are sociable but also that they are happy and outgoing. This way you will find your dog will be much happier to obey the commands that you give to them.
4. Work with the dogs natural instincts, this will make obedience training a lot easier and also you will again your dogs respect quicker.
Below you will see some of the main rules for getting your dog to obey and understand your commands within the quickest time period.
Rule 1. Always praise your dog when they have completed a new task, if they fail the task or command then correct them so they know for next time. Remember a dogs concentration is not as good as a humans so be patient.
Rule 2. The concentration level on a dog is very much limited, they take time to put up new commands. The best thing to do when teach obedience training is repeat your commands over and over.
Rule 3. When you are carrying out obedience lessons with your dog, remain consistent in your ways as this will make it much easier for them to understand what is going on. When training your dog give them a simple decision to show them whats acceptable and what is not. Whether they make the right or wrong choice it is important that you immediately provide them with feedback.
Rule 4. You should always be realistic about how much your dog will be able to learn during any given session of obedience training. Also you need to be fair when training, this is especially important when you are teaching some new obedience skills. Also during the initial training make sure that you never correct or punish your dog for doing something wrong when.
Rule 5. Teaching your dog new commands if meant to be fun so keep it like that. If the dog seems to become bored they will start to lose attention.
Rule 6. The best thing to do is teach your dog one command at a time, by doing this you will keep the dogs attention and they will start to understand and pick up the command a lot faster.
Rule 7. Its important that you incorporate the obedience training into the dogs everyday life and not just in training sessions. This will allow your dog to learn at a faster rate, as an example ” when feeding your dog make them sit and wait before you give them their food.
Rule 8. You should never attempt to correct your dog if they are not in the wrong. It is important that if your dog does wrong then correct them by grabbing their attention. If you do not correct them immediately and leave it, this may leave your dog feeling somewhat confused and will not understand why it has happened.
Rule 9. Always treat your dog with a reward every time they get a command correct, this will please the dog and let them know that they have done the right thing, making them aware for the next time.
Rule 10. After time and a lot of practice your dog will soon become very obedient and will obey your commends. If you do find it all a little difficult there are loads of training classes in your local area!
